About Me
Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year! My name is Linde Thompson and I am beginning my third year as the counselor here at Hyer. It is an honor to be a part of the Hyer family. I am so excited to get to know our new students and new kindergarten class! I also look forward to learning even more about the returning Hyer children this year and discovering more of their unique gifts and talents! One of the highlights of my position is working with our 4th grade students who choose to be a part of our KC club. Please see the tab for more information.
This year begins my 18th year in education. I graduated with my Bachelors in 1997 from Texas A&M University and began my career in Frisco ISD. I spent fifteen years as a classroom teacher in kindergarten, first, and third grades. I was fortunate to join the HPISD family ten years ago as a first grade teacher at Bradfield Elementary. As my passion grew for helping students develop academically, socially, and emotionally, I decided school counseling was the next chapter in my career in education. I pursued a Masters in School Counseling and graduated in 2009.
One of the things I love about this district and specifically Hyer is that every staff member has the same mindset. We believe children come first. We are all here to focus on the unique potential of each child in all aspects of learning. I believe that educating your child must be a team effort between home and school. I am here to facilitate the collaboration of parents, teachers, and staff members so that all children achieve academic success.
One historical philosophy of education that I believe in strongly is the "three H's", the heart, the head, and the hands. When we capture a student's heart (emotion, passion, and imagination), they will give us the opportunity to train their mind, which will lead to the student applying their hands to meaningful work and service. This will be the philosophy I operate under throughout this year as I work to serve these amazing children you send to us.
In the classroom, I will be doing guidance lessons once a month to develop positive character. I will also meet with students individually or in small groups on an as needed basis. Please visit the pages on my website to learn more about the guidance curriculum, find valuable links, refer your student to be a part of a counseling small group, or learn about Rachel's Challenge.
As your school counselor I am here to serve and support you and the children of Hyer. My door is always open if you have any concerns at all. Please do not hesitate to contact me. I will do whatever I can to assist you and help your child have their most successful year in school possible.
